台湾を3月2日から訪問しているマイク・ポンペオ前国務長官は3月4日、自身のツイッターで「アメリカ政府はただちに台湾に対して、不可欠かつ長年延ばし延ばしにしてきた対応をとるべきである。台湾を自由な主権国家として外交的に承認することである」と表明。
その後に出席した遠景基金会主催の講演会でも「アメリカはただちに曖昧戦略から明確戦略に変更し、台湾を合法的、民主的に統治されている国家として承認すべきだ」と発言した。

It is my view that the U.S. government should immediately take necessary,
and long-overdue, steps to do the right and obvious thing, that is to offer
the Republic of China (Taiwan) America’s diplomatic recognition as a free
and sovereign country.
私の考えでは、アメリカ政府は中華民国（台湾）に対して、不可欠かつ長年延ばし延ばしにしてきた対応をただちにとるべきである。台湾を自由な主権国家として外交的に承認することである。
This isn’t about Taiwan’s future independence, it’s about recognizing an
unmistakable already existent reality. That reality is, as many of your
past & present leaders have made clear, there’s no need for Taiwan to
declare independence because it’s already an independent country.
これは台湾の将来的な独立のことではない。これは間違いなく既に存在する事実を承認するということである。その事実とは、あなた方の過去から現在までの指導者がすでに明確にしてきたことであり、台湾は既に独立国家であるから独立を宣言する必要がないということである。
Its name is the Republic of China (Taiwan). The people and government of
the United States should simply recognize this political, diplomatic and
sovereignty reality. The Taiwanese people deserve the world’s respect
for a free, democratic and sovereign country.

China(Taiwan)※中華民国（台湾）である。アメリカの国民と政府はただこの政治的、外交的、主権的な事実を認めるべきである。台湾国民はその自由で民主的な主権国家に対して世界から尊重されるに値する。

Taiwan must have America’s support if freedom and democracy still have a
chance to thrive and triumph in this region and beyond. This is as
important for the Taiwanese people as it is for the American people.
この地域とこの地域を超えた範囲において、自由と民主主義が繁栄し勝利する可能性がまだ残されているのなら、台湾にはアメリカの支援が必要不可欠である。これは台湾人にとってと同等にアメリカ人にとっても重要なことである。
